BISHI is an artist, composer, producer, performer and technologist, of Bengali heritage. Born in London, she is a multi-instrumentalist trained in both Hindustani and Western Classical styles and studied the sitar under Gaurav Mazumdar, a senior disciple of Ravi Shankar. BISHI has independently released three albums and several EPs on her own label, Gryphon Records, to critical acclaim.
She has collaborated with Tony Visconti, Sean Ono Lennon, Jarvis Cocker, Daphne Guinness, the London Symphony Orchestra, The Kronos Quartet, fashion designer Manish Arora and as a soloist on Jonny Greenwood’s ‘Water,’ with City of London Sinfonia, who have also performed her orchestral music.
BISHI composed and produced her first full original score for a VR film, Maya: The Birth of a Superhero, which was shortlisted at Cannes 2024. Her first score for TV, ‘Defiance: Fighting the Far Right,’ aired on Channel 4 in 2024. BISHI’s compositions have been placed in both film Tropique dir Eduoard Salier (2023); and TV (Disney+, Channel 4).
She has become part of a team developing an AI composer tool with University of Sheffield & composed music for Trans Voices, the UK’s first trans plus professional choir.
BISHI is the founder of WITCiH (Women in Tech Creative Industries Hub), a platform elevating women, trans and nonbinary creative practitioners in tech. A current ambassador for Imogen Heap’s Creative Passport, Bishi is also on the board of directors for FAC and The F-List for Music and was invited to be a part of Grammy’s Class of 2024.
